A CONCISE HISTORY OF THE ETT is the first of 7 books in Club Archivist Steve Inch’s Heritage Book series. It provides an overview of how the Breed has developed over 500 years from a rough Black & Tan Terrier bred primarily to support for its function as a working dog to the refined dog we know today which is bred primarily for its form. The book is currently sold out but you can read it online here https://www.photobox.co.uk/view-online-photo-book?widgetId=79c878c2-b98f-4fe7-955d-6d64a38a3407&securityId=

The Black & Tan Terrier : Victorian Writings is the 2nd book in the ETT Heritage series. The 19th C saw a rapid expansion in canine literature. Canine experts such as Stonehenge. Idstone, Vero Shaw, Rawdon Lee and Robert Leighton all wrote extensively about the Black & Tan Terrier. Many of these important historical articles are included in this book. Since it started Crufts has been the ‘go to’ exhibition for dog ‘fanciers’. The ETTs (and its Black & Tan predecessors) have been exhibited at every show.    This book celebrates 100 years of the Black & Tan/ETT at Crufts.  It has some ETT Crufts records, details of all the CC winners from 1924 to 2024, and nearly 100 photos of those ETTs who have won a CC at Crufts.    You can read the online version of the book here https://www.photobox.co.uk/view-online-photo-book?widgetId=784b8890-1241-4564-bc9a-e7a47f06333d&securityId=d6c7bcf3-d52d-4acb-9e66-8dc4e48ca5f2

This book identifies 50 ETTs which might be considered ‘great’. Although ‘greatness’ is subjective the book tries to be as objective as possible by using 3 databases which look at performance in the showring, achievements as a stud (for dogs) and success in the whelping box (for bitches). This is the 1st of three book which look at the contribution which some of the major kennels have made to the historic development of the breed. This one goes from the 1st days of the Black & Tan Terrier being recognised as a breed in the 1st RKC Stud Book right up to the start of the 2nd World War. It profiles 13 kennels with details and photos of the main dogs and the kennel owners. The 2nd book in the ETT Kennel Series profiles kennels which were active in the immediate post war period through to the early 1970’s. This was a period in which the breed was built up from very low numbers. More importantly it saw many new kennels set up which focused on the ETT. The book can be read online here https://www.photobox.co.uk/view-online-photo-book?widgetId=c110fda5-c765-4482-8604-fd563081438f&securityId=8d81fa59-a108-41ae-82f4-de3483dad671

The 3rd book in the ETT Kennel Series focuses on the kennels which made a significant contribution to the preservation and development of the breed from the 1960’s to the end of the 1990’s. These kennels kept the breed going at a time when the number of pups registered each year fell to very low levels.
